Now for the small print.

Because “be nice and pay on time” should be enough… but apparently, it isn’t.

(True story: I once was ghosted by a client for 9 months, who then asked for revisions. Spoiler – no.)

Terms & Conditions

Definitions

“I”, “me”, “my” = Laura Bracher, freelance copywriter and content writer.
“You”, “your” = the client (individual, business, or agency).

By commissioning my services, you agree to these Terms & Conditions. These form the basis of our working relationship and take precedence over any other terms, unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Scope of Work

  • The scope of each project will be agreed in writing before I begin (usually via email or a formal quote).
  • Work includes writing, editing, or proofreading services as described in the agreed brief.
  • If the scope changes significantly once work has started, I reserve the right to revise the fee.

Fees & Payment

  • Unless otherwise agreed, fees are quoted per project.
  • Invoices are due within 14 days of issue.
  • For new clients, I may request up to 50% payment upfront.
  • Late payments may incur statutory interest under the UK Late Payment of Commercial Debts Act 1998.
  • Travel, extraordinary communication, or other expenses (if relevant) will be charged at cost and agreed in advance.

Drafts & Revisions

  • I’ll provide a first draft within the agreed timescale.
  • My project fee includes reasonable revisions requested within 14 days of delivery.
  • Substantial changes to the brief, or additional revisions beyond what was agreed, may incur extra charges.

Cancellations

  • If you cancel a project after commissioning it, I reserve the right to charge for the work completed up to that point – and up to 100% of the agreed fee depending on stage of completion.
  • If I need to cancel for any reason, I’ll refund any advance payments for work not yet completed.

Copyright & Usage

  • Copyright transfers to you once full payment has been received.
  • Until then, all rights remain with me.
  • Unless agreed otherwise, I may display finished work in my portfolio or for self-promotion.

Confidentiality

  • All client materials will be treated as confidential.
  • I’m happy to sign an NDA if required.

Liability

  • I always aim for accuracy and originality, but I can’t guarantee work will be completely error-free.
  • I am not liable for any loss, damages, or claims arising from the use of my work.
  • You are responsible for final approval and ensuring all claims/statements comply with relevant laws and regulations.

Termination

  • Either party may terminate a project in writing before completion.
  • The client agrees to pay for all work completed up to that point.

Force Majeure

I am not liable for delays or failure to deliver due to events beyond my reasonable control (e.g. illness, family emergency, acts of God, technical failure).

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

In short: I’ll deliver what I promise, you’ll pay on time, and we’ll keep things fair, professional, and respectful.
